Chiefs Fans Frustrated as DNC Disrupts TV Broadcast of Final Preseason Game Against Bears

"For the second time this preseason, Channel 41 is shifting its coverage of the Chiefs game to Channel 38," a Reddit user commented via The Kansas City Star. "YouTube TV doesn’t carry Channel 38, so once again, I won’t be able to watch this game. Why is Channel 41 paying for the broadcast rights if it’s inaccessible to many in their market? Does the Chiefs' front office even care?"

The first preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars also caused issues for Kansas City fans. Although it was initially covered by KSHB, the broadcast was moved to KMCI due to the Summer Olympics in Paris. With DirecTV customers missing KMCI and NFL Network blacking out its feed, fans were unable to view the game.

More reactions to the Chiefs-Bears game appeared on X:

"I’m trying to figure this out," one user wrote. "Thursday’s game is blocked in my area on YouTube TV, even though I live locally in KC. It’s on Channel 38, which doesn’t have its own app or channel on YouTube TV. Why can’t I watch it on NFL Network’s broadcast? Can anyone explain?"

If there is any silver lining, the preseason finale is not expected to feature the Chiefs' starters, as head coach Andy Reid aims to avoid injuries before the season begins. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes had limited play in Week 2 against the Detroit Lions, and with key players like Mahomes and Travis Kelce having proven themselves, their participation in this game isn’t critical before the regular-season opener against the Baltimore Ravens.

Similarly, most Bears starters, including top pick Caleb Williams, won’t be playing on Thursday night.

While fans may be frustrated about missing the final preseason game, they can look forward to the regular-season opener on September 5, which will be nationally televised with no blackout restrictions.
